Black Canyon of the Gunnison : Deeper than it is wide in places, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison drops 480 feet in one two mile stretch, reaching a depth of 2772 feet deep at Warner Point. The Painted Wall is 2350 feet... straight vertical - the highest cliff in Colorado. The canyon floor is virtually inaccessible to any living, sane person who lacks wings... Both digital and 35 mm Images are from the South Rim National Park access, and are taken over 48 hours. The Black Canyon South Rim is about 10 miles East of Montrose Colorado, 60 miles West of Gunnison -and easily accessible. Accessing the unpaved North Rim Drive requires a 100 mile drive around the Gunnison Plateau to Crawford, CO.

Sunset Volcanic : Sunset August 31, 2008 - Frankfort KY - The cause appears to be the August 7, 2008 eruption of the Kasatochi volcano in Alaska's Aleutian islands. The volcano hurled a massive cloud of ash and sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere; high winds carried the aerosols over parts of the USA and Europe.
